Dallas Zoo Interns Just Made Our Day!

I’m so excited to let you know Elephant Havens was just presented with a donation of $20,000 from the Spring 2019 interns at the Dallas Zoo! With this incredibly generous donation we will meet our matching fund goal and receive another $50,000!

Since the summer of 2017, the Dallas Zoo interns have been designing group projects to promote the conservation of endangered species through education and fundraising. Inspired by our work at Elephant Havens, this semester’s interns completed one of the most successful campaigns to date!

From March 9-17, these incredible students raised money by holding events at the Zoo, around Dallas and in Deep Ellum; selling custom-designed elephant merchandise and artwork; and promoting (symbolic) adoptions of Dallas Zoo elephants.

Julie Bates, Director of Volunteer Services, told us the energy and camaraderie among the 21 interns was awesome. The students had a fantastic semester building their network and working together for a positive outcome for elephants.

Please join me in thanking the Dallas Zoo for the incredible work they are doing in caring for their elephant herd and contributing to care for elephants at organizations like ours. Please go visit to see for yourself and learn more about the Dallas Zoo’s commitment to conservation!

We’d also like to thank these wonderful interns for choosing to support Elephant Havens with their “Saving Elephants” project.
