We were called to Dikgatlong Settlement, about 25km southwest of Maun, to rescue a baby elephant who had been spotted wandering alone. This area near Maun has a high population of elephants as well as farmers. There is often a lot of shooting from the local farmers as they try to keep elephants away from their crops. We’re not certain, but we suspect this boy’s mother was shot and killed by locals.
This sweet little boy came to us with colic and a cough. A round of antibiotics quickly cleared up the cough.
