Foster Me!
This little boy had quite the adventure on his way to Elephant Havens—although he won’t remember any of it. To move him from Kadizora Camp, near Gunotsuga Village in the Okavango Delta panhandle, back to Elephant Havens, we had to cross the hurdle of the Delta channel. We are so grateful to Greg and Sue Flaxman, managers of the Kadizora Camp, for their assistance with Sekepe’s rescue.
We first put the unconscious boy into their utility vehicle for the drive to the channel. From there we loaded him into the Flaxmans’ boat for a little water ride. Once safe on the opposite bank, we moved Sekepe to yet another vehicle, the Elephant Havens truck. If you’re wondering, it takes quite a few people to move an elephant that many times.
Our little “boat boy” (as he was temporarily christened) woke up in a whole new environment. We suspect his mother was a victim of human-wildlife conflict. Now he is surrounded by loving handlers and a new herd of friends to play with.
