Foster Me!
This adorable baby is named Lesago, which means “Lucky”. And what a lucky little boy he is that he was found right away in this drought-stricken region of northern Botswana near the Zambia and Zimbabwe borders.
His mother had recently succumbed to the drought, leaving him a frightened little orphan. When he turned up in front of Thobolo’s Bush Lodge, their people knew to call us immediately. Because of their swift action we were able to rescue him quickly and get him to the orphanage.
At only 6 months old, Lesago is the youngest elephant we have ever rescued. Thankfully he took to the bottle immediately and is gaining weight and grower stronger by the day—so strong (and full of energy) that we’ve nicknamed him Steamroller! The little guy likes to push his handlers when they least expect it. We’re looking forward to seeing more of his personality come out as time goes by.
