Foster Me!
Instead of drought or human-wildlife conflict, Khwai’s mother died of accidental injuries. We suspect that she was an older elephant, and so she slipped on the mud and broke her back leg. While she struggled to get up, her herd members tried to help her. Unfortunately, they accidentally broke her front leg in the process, and she died from her injuries. The Department of Wildlife allowed us to rescue her extremely young little girl immediately.
She is one of the youngest rescues we’ve ever brought to the orphanage. Our youngest babies are fed their goat milk on demand, and Khwai is always demanding. She is coming along well and has new herd friends—older ones to dote on her and several her own age to grow up with and hit the same milestones together.
