The drought in Botswana has sadly taken the lives of many elephants this year, Boteti’s mother included. There just isn’t enough water for wildlife, no matter how far they roam. Sadly, when Mom died of heat stroke she left 8-month-old Boteti behind.

Just days after rescuing two other orphans, we travelled 180km southeast to the edge of the Kumaga Game Reserve to rescue this precious little girl. She is named “Boteti” after the Boteti River near where she was found. With plenty of milk to drink and lots of love from the handlers and the herd, she is now doing well at the orphanage
