Exciting Ellie Hair Project Update

Last November we launched the Ellie Hair Project, an idea brought to us and spearheaded by one of our handlers, Kay. She proposed that on the last weekend of every month we provide the opportunity to have the children’s hair cut and braided so that they start every month on a high note—feeling confident and ready to tackle their academics.

This unique program assists under-privileged children who are unable to maintain their hair, while also creating employment for local hairstylists. It directly addresses issues of poor personal hygiene, low self esteem, and overall mental health at one of the earliest stages of childrens’ lives.

We’re so excited to share this update from Kay. Thanks to all of you for making this possible through your donations to fund the costs—from income for the hairstylists to products to properly maintain the children’s new coifs.

Deb, I’m pleased to report that the little hearts of Matsuadi Primary School remain permanently touched by your acts of kindness, and I was privileged enough to witness the transformations that we managed to achieve. To think something so simple as getting a haircut or neat braids could make that much of an impact on one’s confidence is unbelievable! Watching their eyes light up as we did the reveals is a feeling like no other, which I intend to store in my heart forever and make reference to on every one of my rainy days.

We did it, Deb!! We did it, and my inner child is sooo grateful to You, Bee, Scott, our Donors and everyone else that made it possible. Hopefully these are the first steps to our thousand mile journey.
