Bua sends a trumpeting “hello”

Bua, pronounced BOO-uh

We were called to the Okavango Panhandle, several hours’ drive north of us, to check on a little male elephant roaming around alone in Hongwa village. Locals had seen him wandering with some of the residents’ cattle and donkeys.

Once this little fellow arrived at Elephant Havens, he let everyone know it—just trumpeting away. It was easy to choose a moniker for him, “Bua”, that translates to “Talker”. He is easily the most vocal elephant we have ever encountered—even Seloko.

Listen to him rumble!

When he gets his bottle, he rumbles. When it’s empty, he rumbles. Whenever he feels like it, he rumbles. No matter where this little 2-year-old is on the property, when we hear trumpeting, we know it’s Bua saying, “Pay attention to me!” And, of course, we do.

You can help support Bua’s health and care by fostering him.
